Hoshina was not known to request many days off. He reliably was willing to be on duty during pretty much any holiday, so when he told Ashiro he wanted a particular day off between Christmas and New Year's Day, she had no complaints or protests.
His arrivals at Ariake had less fanfare now that the First Division officers had gotten more used to his semi-frequent comings and goings. To accommodate for his boyfriend's preference for sleeping in, Hoshina had simply texted that he'd be stopping by and took his time getting his daily training routine in before driving there, so it was closer to noon when he actually showed up at Narumi's door.
“ Happy birthday. I got you a little somethin', but before you open it, you should know I also took the day off. ”
Recently, he had visited the famous hobby and toy shop that Narumi not-so-secretly frequented despite it being located in Tachikawa. The owner there was very knowledgeable and, with the help of a few photos Hoshina had taken of the shelves in Narumi's room, assisted with selecting a model kit that was both highly anticipated and not already in his collection. That kit was now neatly wrapped up inside the bag he was holding out.
While inclined to do whatever he wanted regardless of the date, Narumi's birthday gave him extra reason to slack off without the threat of Hasegawa ( or now also his Dumb Disciple ) deciding to bust down his door for one reason or another. It was expected that he take this day to chill out and not have to worry about boring paperwork or even more boring meetings, so he took his sweet time getting up, grinning stupidly as he finally checked his phone to see a text from his boyfriend that he was coming over at some point. That, of course, did mean he had to put in at least some effort today in cleaning up his office and making sure he was in more presentable, but still lazy, clothes, but it was effort he was finding himself more and more willing to put in because spending time with Hoshina without any complaints about the chosen venue was always best.
"Hey." He'd greet his boyfriend simply, setting his phone to the side as he rose from the comfort of his futon and did a big stretch of his arms over his head until all the gears in his head came to a grinding halt because that was not what he expected to hear. "You? Took a day off? YOU?" To say he was speechless would be an understatement, but there was no shot he ever would've been able to keep from smiling damn near from ear to ear knowing Hoshina actually wanted to spend the whole rest of the day with him when he'd been fully prepared to have to pry himself off the man thinking he'd return to Tachikawa after a few hours or something.
"Forget the present, I think being able to take The Hoshina Soshiro away from his work for a whole day is a gift enough... but I kinda do want the present." And, naturally, he would not forget to give his boyfriend a much anticipated hug and big ol' kiss before snatching that bag up to get at what was inside, only getting giddier by the second because this just might be the best damn birthday he's ever had.
"Pisses me off you're so fucking perfect outside of that dumb helmet on your head." He'd grouse, because it was easier to default to what he knew best, but he knew Hoshina wouldn't take it at face value. Nonetheless, as he turned away to find a spot to keep the box and use that brief moment to adjust to that warm, bubbly feeling of being known and cared for he was gradually getting used to, he did utter a quiet, but no less sincere "Thanks, Soshiro."
